MER MARE COLLECTION (2019)

This collection is inspired by the Sygnathidae family which contains seahorses, pipefish, sea dragons, and more. They have a unique feature of a pointed jointed jar and a stacked cube-like bone in tail structure I tried to emulate. Issey Miyake’s “Pleats Please” is the perfect brand to combine with because of the pleading, which looks quite similar to the fish. It is fascinating to look at how a normal-looking fish transformed to be upright. I named this “Mer Mare” as a pun for the name of the creature, since “mer” in French is “sea” and a mare is a female horse.
